  I had extraordinarily high hopes for this one as it came with a very intriguing summary and some really good reviews to back that up. the introduction had a very captivating and thrilling flow. soon though, I was brought back down to earth, having figured out the 'allegory'. this of course lead to my complete loss of interest in the book, since everything else became far too stale and obvious for my tastes.
  also, something didn't 'fit' the entire time, something was dramatically amiss. I believe the problem lies within the facts and descriptions, although I'm quite reluctant to go looking for further confirmation to my thoughts now.
  either way, I'm glad to have finished reading this 'marvellous' piece of work. specifically because it was disappointing and at one point I was ready to drop it.the second star is for the language here, Faber does write well, even though he covers ordinary and boring topics, with a feeble attempt to hide them amidst allegory and imagination.
