It's hard to write an essay based on the novel you do not like. Especially if this novel is one of the most popular and influencing books in the 20 century and you, on the other side, are not famous writer and even not some kind of expert in literature. It's complicated, but I will try.
The «Catcher in the Rye» is the novel written by J.D. Selinger in 1951. The book is about young man, sixteen-year-old Holden Caulfield, who is completely lost. He does not like his life, but he also can not understand, what he really want, so this novel is full of depression, enmity and pity for himself.
I am sure, it is the main cause of novel's popularity among young people. They can find themselves in this book, their problems and thoughts.
I think, if I were teenager when I read it, i could like this book. But I am not, and the novel only depressed me. Not just because of the plot and protagonist, who I wanted to send to the factory(or some kind of other real work in the real world) during all reading, but also because of the language. Maybe it is only my taste and I am subjective, but I think, it is too much fillers as «sort of» and «and all» and swearwords. I understand that it is written from point of view of the protagonist, who is the teenager, but for me it's excess.
It is interesting that there are less swearwords in russian translation, and it is the only time when I like translation more than original version.
I really liked just one episode, even just a phrase, when protagonist is talking about to be a catcher in the rye. It is the only one moment of the light, of the hope that he can find his place in helping other children, who is also standing too close to the edge of a cliff.
One writer said that there is a right time for each book. I think this book was written about teenagers and for teenagers.519
