Аноним24 мая 2012 г.This is one of my top 10 books must read, I have read the book many times with tremendous enjoyment.
It is many stories from the narrator's personal one to a planetary grand scale of scheming - the literary quest of the "Holy Grail" offered as a master plan to dominate the world by a few initiated - mingled with the Templars, the Kabbalah and the "enlightened" Rosicrucian Order.
An arcane and esoteric mix of historical facts and hearsay with the author's own satirical view of our society with its eagerness to believe anything about secret societies and any legends associated with them.....pointing a mirror at the very root of our fragmented society with ample sarcasm in which Eco is a master with the meaning of each word.
Written literally as a tree of life structure where each sentence is endlessly extrapolated into new parts of the story, resulting in many facets of interpretation - a story within a story within a story....
The book is rich in original quotes from some very rare books with the mythology associated by their authors.
The numerous numerology references are simply hilarious with Eco's italian sense of humor, you can make anything you like by combining numbers to suit the desired outcome.
The opening quote summarizes the book in a nutshell:Only for you, children of doctrine and learning, have we written this work. Examine this book, ponder the meaning we have dispersed in various places and gathered again; what we have concealed in one place we have disclosed in another, that it may be understood by your wisdom.
