Radio Silence

The thing that makes me a bit weak at the first place about the main character Frances Janvier is how was it difficult for her to keep her mouth shut and simply play this to cover up the fact that Aled is the creator of the Universe City? We personally, as readers, faced her skilful ability to lie to others, but this talent did not work at a crucial moment for no apparent reason. You would think that pressure on this issue suddenly fell upon her, as well as the knowledge that the secretive and quiet Aled, who lives in the neighbourhood, is the creator of her favourite show and the voice of the non-binary Radio, but why this pressure did not make her feel more responsible for the secret that she was trusted? There are people who cannot lie, it is simply in their nature, but there is no necessity for a person to be a liar to not respond to provocation. Just say no, Aled Last is not Radio Silence. It will make them doubt your words, they will discuss the question, they will say that you are lying, but at least they will not have any official confirmation and just shut up. Aled is guilty because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut while being drunk, you have to be careful if you really want to remain anonymous and keep the very important thing in your life in secret, so he is the first and foremost source of leaked information, but if you are his friend, keep quiet about it if you truly love him. You could’ve just closed your question box on Tumblr to prevent the temptation to respond. Yes, you were invited to the project to work on the visualization and there is no need to be close friends to work together. The creator chose this artist because he felt like this is the right style of drawing for his podcast. Oh, shut it, I am just judging everyone in this situation, and it makes me jealous of justice.
Maybe another remark here should generally be about people online. While I am trying to justify or probably just judge their words and actions towards Toulouse or Radio Silence, some are really being like that in real life. How normal is that to text a person to kill themselves for experiencing some life difficulties which were reflected in their podcast? The story shows it brilliantly, those scandal and drama seeking jerks on the other side of the monitor.
This is all I cannot understand about the characters’ and even real people behaviour, and the mistakes of the characters make them more real. They are not perfect and they decide on stupid moves.
It makes me happy that it is not a clichéd story about homosexuality, as usually are the books with this topic which appear in trends nowadays. The story has its own interesting and unique plot, it is original and can stand out. Usually, when there are gay people in a book, their characters feel flat and redundant, as if they were inserted there simply because it was necessary, to make to author read and popular. I am glad that in this story the author did not make the topic of homosexuality central. The characters are just the way they are, we really see their problems, we see the disclosure of the characters, their feelings and experiences. And I like it. I understand that we need to talk about the problems, they must be reviewed in literature, but we also need stories that show and reveal people with non-traditional sexuality as ordinary people, with stories, secrets, lives, friends, families, school issues, without putting their sexuality on the first place and poke the reader with this fact in the face on each page. I wrote so many words in order to be understood by everyone as exactly as possible, I hope this did not bother you.
This story is beautiful. I guess, however, that I would be even more involved if I read it at a younger age. And I liked how it ended, intriguing from the beginning till the end. It is a young adult about relationship, friendship, emotions and feelings, difficulties, school, loneliness... I would highly recommend for youngsters of age 16-17.
