My first reaction: What a hell!!! Who won? Maybe it will be described in the next book, but for now, I'm left disappointed, because that final game is the one we've all been waiting since the beginning of the book. Another thing which makes me irritated - Fredrich has been adding too much drama! Well, I like drama, but here it's exaggerated incredibly. Let's start with Benji (hell, yes). He's the captain, he's a great player, his team, as for any other player, is like a family for him. Hockey is what matters the most in this town, from few years olds to old man, pretty much from birth till death as the story demonstrates. Maybe its the only thing that makes the town survive. What do you think he does the first time? He plays pussy, misses all rehearsals after his secret has been leaked online. Well, it's horrible, but how can you put the whole town down, humiliate it when you don't even show up the first match with Hed (ok, he does in the end, but almost worthless)? (Not to mention Vidar, who was released from a psycho place just to play, but there he was just standing and watching his team lose WTFFF). And then, in the end, Benji was like oh I'm a great player, but maybe I can be someone else? Let me leave my team the night before the match that matters the most. If his team loses, it may not exist next year! Why, why, why??? If you wanna discover yourself, do after the match! If the Beartown team loses, you're the one to blame. Same like Maya, who decided to report Kevin right before the finals. Why couldn't she do it right after the rape or after the final? Incredibly stupid. The team lost and Kevin just left the town unarrested. Useless again.
Elizabeth is such an interesting and funny (in her special way) character. I'd love to know her better. Unfortunately, she's not described well. Ah, such a shame!
Finally, moving on to the good things of the book. I still give it 4*, because the style is just amazing, the structure is great, the feelings of the characters, even being unrealistic, are beautifully deeply written. The book is not about hockey so much this time, rather about this community in the forest, so there are not so many episodes of the games. However, I enjoyed this book more than the first one (such a rare thing!) and can't wait for the 3rd one to be released.
