    The wise do not grieve

I bought this book by E. Gilbert occasionally. It was a beautiful edition in English with my favourite actress Julia Roberts in its cover. The book had been standing and absorbing dust on the shelf for quite a long time. I really wanted to watch the screen version but I constantly postponed it because my life principle is "First read the book". Then I gave up and saw the film. I was deeply impressed by the feelings of the main character and all the way she went to find herself after her painful and arduous devorce. I sympathised Liz so much that I was crying with J. Roberts while enjoying the film. Maybe the inner state of this woman just corresponded with my own as at that moment I was going through difficult times. Then, half a year later, I finally managed to get down to reading the novel. Of course, I understood that I took up reading it not because of the plot which I'd already known from the screen version. It was just because I was eager to read something in the English language. However, later I came across some critical information on the Internet. I found out that the composition of the novel was thought over and rather symbolic (the symbolism was connected with some religious topic). I got interested in the structure of the book and penetrated into these events again.
I can say that I have discovered much more from the text than from the film adaptation. All the plot is divided into three absolutely captivating parts devoted to the character's trip to Italy, India and Indonesia.
The first part about the Italian period of Liz's life was especially breathtaking for me as I'm a great fan of Italian culture, cuisine and way of life. Italian world vision is based on the ability to enjoy life and be thankful for all the pleasures it offers. The author has perfectly reflected this peculiarity of the Italians.
However, I was a bit disappointed by the final of the story which seemed sweet and too melodramatic.
In spite of this I can say that spending time on reading this novel was not a waste of time.
