  “Josh, behind you!” a voice shouts. Suddenly, something heavy slams into me, yanking me out of Jonah’s grip and sending me staggering. I try steadying myself, until I realize the ground is no longer under my foot. It’s water. Shit. I plummet sideways into the icy pool. Water races up around me, submerging me and my costume, dampening my hearing. Quickly, I kick upward until I break the surface, gasping. My hair is matted to my forehead—my pirate hat is floating away. The entire backyard is laughing.
