I don’t get novels. Reading about other people’s lives or whatever. Who cares? I mean, you have your own life, don’t you? You’d see it if you ever put the book down. Why go out of the way to get caught up in someone else’s made-up life? <…> It’s just like magic. Not real magic. Bogus magic. What’s there to like? It’s a gimmick. A trick. In reality, nothing’s gonna change. No, maybe reading does change things. It makes them worse. Ruins your day. Anyway, it’s just a load of bull. If it’s not real magic, what’s the point?
