Napoli19 сентября 2016"Possession" is an idea, a concept, a belief, which serves to interpret behavior. The anthropologist, who is interested in the beliefs and behaviors of the human groups, can speak of "possession" only when he finds such a belief among the people he is studying. On the other hand, he is also interested in their behavior and will want to know what types of behaviors are interpreted as possession by a particular group. (...) We shall say that possession trance exists in a given society when we find that there is such a belief in possession and it is used to account for alterations or discontinuity in consciousness, awareness, personality, or other aspects of psychological functioning.
In psychological and psychiatric terms, what we are calling possession trance includes a variety of different phenomena. However they all share alteration of consciousness, of sensory modalities, and the like.
