A debut novel that's as sharp as a knife's point.
Plain Kate lives in a world of superstitions and curses, where a song can heal a wound and a shadow can work deep magic. As the wood-carver's daughter, Kate held a carving knife before a spoon, and her wooden charms are so fine that some even call her "witch-blade" -- a dangerous nickname in a town where witches are hunted and burned in the square.

Polkadot29 января 2017Very grimdark, much burning witches.
I started skimming more and more in the second half. Kate has no character development and she keeps on feeling powerless throughout the whole book. Other characters are not fleshed out. Even the main char Kate is fairly one dimension. She carves wood, she's an orphan and she yearns to belong. That's it. The ending isn't satisfying, it has the same depressing feel as the rest of it.4 понравилось
