The first collection of short stories published by Peter Carey, whose other books include "Bliss", "Illywhacker" and "Oscar and Lucinda", which was awarded the 1988 Booker Prize. The stories, set in an ominous near-future that has a feel of contemporary life, are by turn bizarre and funny.
having read the first two stories i was quite shocked. i didn't expect this book to be like that. i thought it would be something funny. but then my first thought was "oh. my. god" and i couldn't wait till i finish one story and proceed to reading the next one. unfortunately, not all the stories appeared to be like the first two. :/ nevertheless, it was a nice shot.
